The opening event for the camp village will be held on June 29th. [Disaster Prevention Sports Day] and [Dashi No. 1 Grand Prix] are aimed at people who want to learn about emergency preparedness while having fun, experience something unique to Yakumo Town, and enjoy the festival atmosphere together. Through this event, we hope to encourage visitors to be aware of disaster prevention and to be considerate of the global environment, and to liven up the Yakumo Float Parade, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary, so that it can continue for the next 10 or 20 years. Background of the event This event was planned based on an awareness of the issues surrounding the maintenance and development of the Yakumo Float Procession. The Yakumo Float Parade started 41 years ago with a small step of young people in Yakumo pulling a single float through a field. It has now become the town’s representative festival, attracting tourists from outside the town and developing to the point where the town’s accommodations are fully booked. However, due to the declining birthrate and aging population, as well as the effects of COVID-19, the Yakumo Float Parade has been shrinking year by year. In order to increase the number of people who want to get involved in the festival, we thought it was important to first get people to know about the festival in various ways, come and enjoy it. Therefore, we are taking on the challenge of creating the “Yakumo Float Parade Camp Village” and the “Opening Event” in a new way to liven up the festival, which is expanding and shrinking in accommodation.
