With the “Gold Mines of Sado Island” registered as a World Cultural Heritage Site in July 2024, Sado has attracted a lot of attention both domestically and internationally, and the number of tourists is on the rise. However, a survey conducted in the metropolitan area last summer revealed that little is known about the area other than what is featured in news and pamphlets such as “Kanayama, Toki, Taraibune, and Sado Okesa.” In addition to gold mines, Sado has many unknown attractions such as its rich nature, history, culture, food, and activities. In this campaign, private companies and local governments will collaborate to develop a large-scale promotion in order to widely disseminate this information and attract further tourism. As for the measures currently under consideration and preparation, we will begin by spreading the word about Sado’s various charms and raising awareness, such as
disseminating information using shipping, railway, and aviation media, and utilizing our website and SNS. From March 20th, we started airing TV commercials mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Furthermore, we will convey the appeal of Sado Island to a wide range of people through large-scale outdoor advertising, distribution of YouTube ads, introduction of Sado Island in official newspapers, kick-off events in line with the campaign, implementation of PR activities by inviting interviews from various media and influencers, and promotions aimed at attracting inbound tourists. In this initiative, we are calling for the active participation of private businesses both on and off Sado Island. We will promote tourism revitalization throughout the region, including travel agencies and tourism-related businesses. We aim to develop Sado Island not as a temporary tourist destination, but as a sustainable tourist destination that you will want to visit again and again.
