Takasaki’s first baby monkey “Banpaku” At Takasakiyama Natural Zoo, we name the first baby monkey born every year in order to make the monkey familiar to as many people as possible.This year as well, we held a call for names starting March 15th (Saturday) and received 2,467 applications. Among them, this year’s first baby monkey was named “Banpaku”, which received 106 votes, in honor of the Osaka-Kansai Expo being held there. Approximately 150 baby monkeys are born every year during the birthing season (April to August). Please come and meet the cute baby monkeys. Takasaki is home to wild Japanese macaques, which is rare for a city suburb, and Mt. Takasaki and its habitat were designated as a natural monument in 1952 because they are considered to be valuable animals and a natural environment. At Takasakiyama Natural Zoo, wild monkeys are fed, and currently two groups of monkeys take turns visiting the monkey area and can be seen spending time freely throughout the park. It is a “place where you can enjoy monkeys and nature” where you can enjoy the staff’s explanations and feel close to each monkey.
