Reduce CO2 emissions from the operation of the Hakone Pirate Ship to virtually zero Our transportation system has become carbon neutral From April 2025, the Hakone Pirate Ship operated by Odakyu Hakone Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President: Hidehiro Mizukami) will offset the CO2 generated by its operation, reducing its CO2 emissions to virtually zero. Carbon offset for the Hakone Pirate Ship is achieved by replacing the heavy fuel oil required for operation with high value-added products that are credited for reducing CO2 emissions. By purchasing credits, we contribute to CO2 absorption and reduction projects, such as circulating funds to projects such as forest protection. From April 2024, we will change the power of the Hakone Tozan Train, Hakone Tozan Cable Car, and Hakone Ropeway to electricity derived from renewable energy, reducing CO2 emissions to virtually zero. Carbon offsetting the fuel oil of the Hakone Pirate Ship will complete carbon neutrality in the transportation business. The regenerated power generated on downhill slopes is used for uphill operation, reducing the amount of electricity used by the railway by approximately 10%. In addition, the approximately 7,000 hydrangeas planted along the railway line prevent mud from washing away during rainfall, and have become an early summer feature.
