(Headquarters: Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President: Hidehiro Mizukami) will renovate the first floor of Hakone Ropeway Owakudani Station and the station plaza on Friday, April 25, 2025, and open a new observation area called “Chikyu-no-tani” with the theme of “Black, Geo, and Wind.” “Chikyu-no-tani” is a new spot named because it is a place where you can feel the desolate land of Owakudani, which stretches out in front of the station, and the living earth where steam blows up and the smell of sulfur hangs in the air. It consists of three unique observation decks: the “Kaze no Wheel Terrace” where you can feel the wind blowing into the valley, the thrilling “Breath Deck” that juts out into the valley overlooking the fumarole, and the “Ozora Bank” that overlooks the expansive scenery, the “Iwa no Su Bench” where you can become one with the impressive nature, and the “Tani no Marche” where you can enjoy light meals and merchandise while enjoying Owakudani. Each zone is a spectacular setting where you can encounter the depths of the earth’s workings, such as dynamic topography and wind, and enjoy contact with the majestic nature. Tani no Marche, a shop on the first floor of the station, offers souvenirs typical of Hakone and products related to the local Kanagawa area, as well as original sweets and drinks inspired by the scenery that spreads out in the observation area. You can take it out to the deck and enjoy it with the scenery. Hakone Ropeway will celebrate its 65th anniversary in September of this year, and will continue to create exciting times for people visiting Hakone.
