JAL Press release: April 24, 2025 JAL applies for fuel surcharge for international cargo April 21, 2025 JAL has applied to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for a fuel surcharge for international cargo originating from Japan that will be applied from May 1, 2025. Since the standard average price of jet fuel in March 2025 was 85.39 USD per barrel, the fuel index price is set as “85.00 or more and less than 90.00”, and the surcharge amount is 62 yen per kg (long-haul routes such as the Americas and Europe), 37 yen (long-haul routes in Asia), and 33 yen (short-haul routes in Asia). JAL will revise international cargo fuel surcharges originating from Japan 12 times a year (monthly), and each month’s cargo fuel surcharge amount will be determined according to the table below introduced from April 2024, using the “average price of jet fuel (kerosene) traded in Singapore for the month before the previous month” as the fuel index price.
