JAL Press release: July 23, 2025 Apply for fuel surcharge for international shipments July 23, 2025 JAL has applied to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism for an international cargo fuel surcharge for flights departing from Japan, which will be applied from August 1, 2025. Since the average price of jet fuel in June 2025 was US$84.70 per barrel, the fuel index price will be “80.00 or more but less than 85.00,” and the surcharge amount will be 56 yen per kg (long-haul routes such as Americas and Europe), 34 yen (long-haul routes in Asia), and 30 yen (short-haul routes in Asia). JAL revise the international cargo fuel surcharge from Japan 12 times a year (every month), and the cargo fuel surcharge amount for each month is determined according to the following table, which was introduced in April 2024, using the “average price of jet fuel (kerosene) traded in Singapore for the month before last” as the fuel index price.
