Federation) Shiga Branch (Branch Chief Norimichi Sato) will hold a special viewing event on Akechi Mitsuhide at “Saikyouji Temple” (Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture) on Saturday, June 21st. At this event, important cultural properties such as the Sakamoto Castle bell and a letter written by Mitsuhide will be specially exhibited, and the unknown true character of Mitsuhide will be revealed through commentary by a monk. At Saikyouji Temple, the family temple of Akechi Mitsuhide, the event “Ask the Monk! Akechi Mitsuhide’s Secrets – Saikyouji Temple’s Secret Treasures and Hidden Buddhas Revealed” will be held. At this event, the “Sakamoto Castle bell” that is said to have been donated by Mitsuhide and the “Memorial rice donation letter” (important cultural property) written by Mitsuhide will be specially exhibited. In addition, the normally closed “Momoyama Palace” and the secret Buddha “Yakushi Nyorai” from Hossho-ji Temple (both important cultural properties) will also be open to the public. On the day, a monk from Saikyo-ji Temple will provide a detailed explanation of Mitsuhide’s character based on historical documents, providing a valuable learning opportunity for history fans. In addition, a summer tradition of “Cool Summer Vegetable Somen” will be served for dinner, allowing you to enjoy a day that feels the seasons.
