On Wednesday, August 13th, we are planning a “French Debut Experience” to familiarize children with the basics of French cuisine, and on Sunday, August 24th, we are planning a “Parent-Child Noh Experience” to experience traditional Japanese performing arts at the adjacent Jodo Shinshu Otaniha Okazaki Betsuin. From spring 2025, Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei will allow small children to stay and use the restaurant. As we approach our first summer vacation, we will be holding two
experiential events that parents and children can enjoy together. The first is the “French Debut Experience,” aimed at children experiencing French cuisine for the first time. At the restaurant “Nouvelle Epoque,” which inherits the traditions of Okura French cuisine, we will prepare a special menu that is easy to understand, and our service staff will explain the history of French cuisine and table manners in an easy-to-understand manner. There will also be a question corner for the chef and an experience of children plating their own food. Parents and children can deepen their interest and learning about food by experiencing both tasting and cooking. The second event will be a “Parent and Child Noh Experience” at the “Shinshu Otaniha Okazaki Betsuin” adjacent to the hotel, where you can get familiar with the traditional Japanese performing art of Noh. We will welcome Kongo-ryu Noh actor Tokunari Udaka as the instructor, and you will be able to experience the depth of Japanese aesthetics and manners while looking at Noh masks and costumes up close with easy-to-understand explanations. The program allows you to feel closer to traditional culture through seeing, touching and creating, including experiencing the movements of a fan dance, watching a demonstration of Noh mask making and coloring a Noh mask drawn on paper.
