(sustainable aviation fuel). In May 2023, we began collecting used cooking oil from hotel kitchens, and in the 23 months up to March 2025, we collected 6,502 liters (5,916 kg) of used cooking oil from the entire hotel and events. The SAF generated from this collected amount is equivalent to the fuel for approximately 2.9 flights from Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) to Osaka International Airport (Itami Airport), resulting in a total reduction of
approximately 14.2 tons of CO2. Hotel Nikko Tsukuba will continue to collect waste cooking oil from households not only at the Tsukuba Festival, but also at the Festival Tsukuba and other events sponsored by the hotel, creating opportunities for people to actively

View details ​ ■About the Fry to Fly Project SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), made from waste cooking oil from homes and stores, can reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 80% compared to conventional aviation fuel. In order for SAF to be fully introduced, a large amount of used cooking oil will be needed, but currently, most of the used cooking oil from households is disposed of, and it is said that more than 100,000 tons of recovered used cooking oil are exported overseas each year.
