It is known that the internal tissue of bones (bone histology) contains a lot of information about the growth and ecology of animals. Using this method, the ecology of many extinct animals, including dinosaurs, has been revealed. In recent years, it has been discovered that bone histology can also be applied to research on living wild animals, and its possibilities are expanding. In this live broadcast, Mr. Hayashi will give an easy-to-understand talk about what we can learn about dinosaurs and modern animals through this method. Mr. Hayashi is an associate professor at the Department of Dinosaurs, Okayama University of Science, and also serves as a visiting associate professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, Osaka University. Born in Osaka Prefecture in 1981, he completed his degree in Natural History Science at Hokkaido University Graduate School of Science. He has experience as a researcher at the University of Bonn, Germany. My specialty is vertebrate paleontology, and I am working on elucidating the evolution of the ecology and physiology of large vertebrates, including dinosaurs, with a particular focus on the internal structure of bones. In recent years, I have also been applying paleontological techniques to elucidate the ecology of modern rare animals.
