Attractive events will be held one after another during the best and most comfortable season! Cairns Tourism Board (Cairns, Queensland, Australia, CEO: Mark Olsen) will introduce information on notable sporting events to be held in the Cairns area from May 2025 onwards. Although Cairns is always hot all year round, a number of sporting events are held from May to September, when the weather is particularly pleasant. This time of year is the perfect weather for participating in sports, and it’s also a great opportunity to enjoy the excitement of watching sports. Primarily aimed at people over the age of 35, participants will compete in a total of 24 sports, a record number, in addition to popular sports such as swimming, futsal, and squash. The competition is expected to attract approximately 2,500 entries, with entries coming not only from Australia but also from around the world, including the United States, India, Singapore, and Africa. This course is so popular that it was ranked 1st in the Best Ironman Courses by athletes around the world in 2022 as well as in 2018. The venue is also popular for its easy access, which takes about 10 minutes by car from the airport to the venue. The Ironman race is one of the toughest in the world, consisting of a 3.86km swim, 180.25km bike ride and 42.2km full marathon, which will give you a great feeling and an unforgettable sense of accomplishment as you race through Cairns’ breathtaking coastline and lush rainforest. Last year, more than 4,000 people, including participants from Japan,
participated in the full and half races alone, and general entries are now being accepted for this year. There will also be an event for children called Iron Kids. Races for children are not about rankings but about “experience,” so parents and children can enjoy
participating in the same competition. Held in Port Douglas, approximately 60 minutes north of Cairns City, the event follows the Great Barrier Reef Drive, which connects Palm Cove and offers breathtaking views through the palm trees along the Coral Sea. It is held in 136km and 100km Gran Fondo, 60km Semi Fondo, and 48km Medio Fondo, and although times are measured, it is not a race.
