URL: Cairns Tourism Board Press release: May 14, 2025 Australia Cairns Tourism Board 2025 Sports Event Latest Information Experience the excitement of sports in the everlasting summer of Cairns! Attractive events will be held one after another during the best and most comfortable season! Cairns Tourism Board (Cairns, Queensland, Australia, CEO: Mark Olsen) will introduce information on notable sporting events to be held in the Cairns area from May 2025 onwards. Although Cairns is always hot all year round, a number of sporting events are held from May to September, when the weather is particularly pleasant. This time of year is the perfect weather for participating in sports, and it’s also a great opportunity to enjoy the excitement of watching sports. Please pay attention to the various sporting events held in the open locations unique to Cairns.

Primarily aimed at people over the age of 35, participants will compete in a total of 24 sports, a record number, in addition to popular sports such as swimming, futsal, and squash. The competition is expected to attract approximately 2,500 entries, with entries coming not only from Australia but also from around the world, including the United States, India, Singapore, and Africa. If you have a Masters registration, you can also participate from Japan. In addition to the competitions, various social parties will also be held during the tournament to encourage interaction between participants. Elaborate parties are held on the Esplanade every day, including a jungle-themed opening party and a disco fever party reminiscent of 70s disco, and a best-dressed award is also chosen at each party. This course is so popular that it was ranked 1st in the Best Ironman Courses by athletes around the world in 2022 as well as in 2018. The venue is also popular for its easy access, which takes about 10 minutes by car from the airport to the venue. The Ironman race is one of the toughest in the world, consisting of a 3.86km swim, 180.25km bike ride and 42.2km full marathon, which will give you a great feeling and an unforgettable sense of accomplishment as you race through Cairns’ breathtaking coastline and lush rainforest. Last year, more than 4,000 people, including participants from Japan,
participated in the full and half races alone, and general entries are now being accepted for this year. There will also be an event for children called Iron Kids. Races for children are not about rankings but about “experience,” so parents and children can enjoy
participating in the same competition. Visitors will be able to experience the “eco-friendly” aspects that are typical of Cairns, such as the recyclable paper cups used on the course, recycling boxes set up around the venue, and all clothing left on the start line and on the course will be donated to charity. Sisters Wakana and Mai Fukushima, who are Cairns Marathon ambassadors and have achieved good results in the past, have decided to participate again this year. Up until last year, approximately 3,000 people, including participants from Japan, enjoyed the race held in beautiful natural surroundings. The online deadline is July 11th (Friday) at 16:00 Japan time, 17:00 local time, and the on-site entry deadline is July 12th (Saturday) at 16:00, the day before the event. Held in Port Douglas, approximately 60 minutes north of Cairns City, the event follows the Great Barrier Reef Drive, which connects Palm Cove and offers breathtaking views through the palm trees along the Coral Sea. It is held in 136km and 100km Gran Fondo, 60km Semi Fondo, and 48km Medio Fondo, and although times are measured, it is not a race. You can challenge yourself to achieve your personal best, or you can take your time and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The Port Douglas Gran Fondo Festival is more than just a cycling event. Hartley’s to Port MTB Race, a 40km mountain bike race that starts at Hartley’s Crocodile Adventure, a tourist attraction famous for its crocodile shows, and heads for Port Douglas, will also be held. The exciting experience of running through wild nature will arouse participants’ sense of adventure. In addition, the running event “Run Port Douglas” will feature 2km, 5km, 10km, and half marathon categories. The finishing point is Port Douglas’ beautiful Four Mile Beach, a stretch of white sand and blue water that stretches on forever. The exhilarating feeling of running along the beach while feeling the pleasant sea breeze is exceptional. Additionally, in a unique effort to add excitement to the race, special prizes will be awarded to participants with the most attractive costumes.
