With the story of the Komasa family’s challenges that transcend generations as a backdrop, all processes are carried out in Kagoshima, and while using modern equipment, traditional distillation techniques are fused together. The first single malt whiskey, “Single Malt Kuju THE FIRST,” which has been aged in the Kuju climate, will begin shipping in April 2025. Cask strength specification that blends a variety of raw liquors, including bourbon barrels, refill casks, and sherry casks. The aroma is reminiscent of Japanese citrus, loquat, banana, and vanilla, with a refined sweetness like wasanbon. The taste is very well balanced, with an elegant yet well-structured body. Shindo Distillery (Fukuoka Prefecture) Shinozaki Co., Ltd. has been brewing sake in Fukuoka for over 100 years and has developed innovative products based on the concept of “THE QUEST FOR THE ORIGINAL (pursuit of originality)”. Inheriting the spirit of Dr. Jokichi Takamine, they have taken on the challenge of making whiskey using koji, and in 2021 they began selling “TAKAMINE KOJI FERMENTED WHISKEY” in the United States. And in 2021, as a new challenge, they established a whiskey distillery in the naturally blessed location of Shindo, Asakura City, and began producing whiskey for the first time in Fukuoka Prefecture.
