At Uminonakamichi National Seaside Park (Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture), the 2,000 green kochia plants are in full bloom. The rows of round, fluffy plants are a summertime sight at Uminonakamichi. The best time to see them is around early September, after which they gradually change color, and by October you can see the kochia turning bright red. At ‘Play Cafe’, located beyond the rows of kochia, they sell cool sweets and drinks, such as ‘shaved ice matcha’ that looks just like kochia, and their original summer lesca. Take a seat on the terrace and enjoy the summer breeze while admiring the cute kochia.
