Snake refers to a snake, and snakes have been involved in our lives through faith, folklore, and proverbs. Among them, the white snake is enshrined throughout Japan as a messenger of the gods. In this special exhibition, we will be displaying an albino specimen of the “Aodaisho”, a species endemic to Japan that is distributed in Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and surrounding islands, named after the Chinese zodiac. The white snake is enshrined all over Japan, but there is also a place in Kobe that is connected to the white snake. At Wada Shrine, located in Hyogo Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, the white snake is considered a messenger of the gods and is enshrined in its mound.
