Shimizuya Ryokan is an inn that has been loved by the local community for over 100 years in the Tai district of Tosa Town. The facility was closed due to a lack of a successor, but we at AlphaDrive Kochi have taken over the business in order to reuse local resources and revive it as a place of exchange. We aim to restart the facility as a shared space where people can gather and connect, as well as a lodging facility. Many people supported this crowdfunding campaign, mainly by purchasing advance reservations for accommodation tickets. In addition, many people said through the project that they “want to see the inn reopen” and “are looking forward to reopening.” We are currently working on renovations and procuring equipment with the aim of reopening in late September, and from 2026 onwards we plan to use the facility for a variety of purposes, including corporate training and camps, tourism and event hosting. We are truly grateful. When we first started crowdfunding, we were anxious and nervous about how many people would actually sympathize with this project, which still had no shape. We have secured the funds to renovate our facilities, which is the first step in creating a hub for interaction in the town, and we are now on track to reopen as an inn. What made me happiest through this crowdfunding campaign was that 85 people purchased tickets to stay at Shimizuya. Of course, we would also like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported us in other ways. So many people have come to Kochi Prefecture and Tosa Town after staying at Shimizuya, and have experienced its nature, food, culture, and local industry. I am so happy to be able to meet everyone in Kochi who I haven’t seen in a while. I feel that the presence of inns in the local area is functioning as a hub connecting the inside and outside of the area. We look forward to seeing you in Kochi.
