A new charm of the Saiku ruins, a historic site, beckoned by the “Mouguru” Meiwa Kanko Shosha General Incorporated Association (Headquarters: Meiwa Town, Mie Prefecture, hereinafter referred to as Meiwa Kanko Shosha) will begin full-scale operation of the green slow mobility “Mouguru” from this fiscal year, which has been considering the introduction of the system since FY2020. The “Mouguru”, which has undergone repeated demonstration experiments and trial operations, is an electric vehicle that travels at speeds of less than 19 km/h. It is characterized by an exterior modeled after the ox carts that were the vehicles of the aristocrats of the Heian period, and can be driven on public roads as well.It is a barrier-free vehicle that can be used by everyone from the elderly to children, and aims to be used by visitors to Meiwa Town and local residents as a barrier-free way to visit the Saiku ruins and surrounding facilities. As we begin full-scale operation this year, we will carry out a collaborative project with the Saiku Museum of History as the first step. Overview of Saiku History Museum Collaboration Project In order to have a deeper experience of the charm of the historic Saiku ruins, we will offer visitors to the Saiku Museum of History a ride on a Mouguru bullock cart, as well as a special experience of touring the historic site in a Mouguru while wearing the Heian period travel costume Tsuboshozoku. Event details Name: “Mouguru” experience around the historic Saiku ruins Ride experience Period: Operates mainly on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from April 26, 2025 (Saturday) to May 6, 2025 (Tuesday/Shinkyu) *Excluding May 3rd (Saturday/Holiday) and May 4th (Sunday/Holiday) Time: 10:30-16:30 (lunch break from 12:00-13:00) Maximum number of passengers:About 10 groups (maximum of 3 people per vehicle) Time required: About 40 minutes Departing from and arriving at Saiku History Museum Route :Museum – Ancient Ise Road – Itsukinomiya History Experience Center – Saiku Heian no Mori – 1/10th model – Ancient Ise Road – Museum (no stopovers allowed) To ride, you will need a Saiku History Museum admission ticket (common ticket for the permanent exhibition and spring special exhibition). When purchasing your admission ticket, please let us know that you would like to ride the Moguru. In case of rain: Canceled. In the event of rain during operation, the tour will be immediately suspended. If you are unable to board due to bad weather, we will give you priority boarding by bringing your ticket with you on the next trip. The exterior is modeled after an ox cart, a vehicle from the Heian period, and provides a historical atmosphere and new discoveries to everyone visiting the Saiku ruins. Designed with barrier-free considerations in mind, it can be used comfortably by as many people as possible. The purpose of this project and our efforts as a DMO This project is part of the efforts to create a sustainable tourism area in Meiwa Town, Mie Prefecture, promoted by Meiwa Tourism Trading Company, a general incorporated association as DMO. We aim to use it as a new means of transportation within the region, and to allow visitors to Meiwa Town to experience the charm of the historic site Saiku Ruins, thereby increasing its awareness. By utilizing green slow mobility, we will provide a new tourism experience where you can enjoy the scenery slowly and experience history and culture while reducing the environmental impact.
