(located in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture, Representative Director: Kazuhiko Miyazuka, commonly known as “Katsuyama DMO”) will be selling a limited number of specially designed stamps to commemorate the once-in-33-year opening of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine at the “Echi Tetsu Cafe” inside Echizen Railway Katsuyama Station. About Heisenji Hakusan Shrine and the opening ceremony held once every 33 years Hakusan Heisenji Temple was opened by Taicho Daishi in 717 and became the base of the Echizen side of the Hakusan faith. At its peak during the Sengoku period, it prospered as a major religious city with an armed force of about 8,000 monks, but in 1574 it was defeated in a battle with the Ikko Ikki and the entire mountain was burnt down. Afterwards, the center of the precincts was rebuilt and is now used as a shrine due to the ordinance for the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. It is a place with a history of over 1,300 years and has great historical value, but it is also famous for the moss that spreads out in front of the blue-roofed worship hall, earning it the nickname “Fukui’s Moss Palace.” At Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, the opening ceremony will be held once every 33 years from May 23rd (Friday) to May 25th (Sunday), 2025, and the doors of the main shrine where Izanami no Mikoto is enshrined, as well as Onamuchisha, Beszansha, Sannomiya, and Kaizansha shrines will be opened, allowing you to see the statues of each deity.

To commemorate this special occasion, we will be planning and selling a special design in addition to the Gojoin seals that are normally sold at Katsuyama Station. The special gojo-in has majestic cedar trees on both ends, and the center features the worship hall, the symbolic building of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine. The stamp section features the “Second Torii” gate of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine, which has a distinctive small roof, and depicts the Echizen Railway passing through the characteristic torii gate of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine. Special stamps will be sold in quantity from May to July, and sales will end once they are gone. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of the Gojoin will be donated to the environmental maintenance costs of Heisenji Hakusan Shrine and its surrounding area.
