However, with summer vacation coming in a few months, there will be many more opportunities to travel, so some people may be wondering which time to go on a trip. Therefore, Hankyu Travel Agency conducted a survey to find out travel trends during Golden Week and summer vacation. We will publish the results along with the reasons for traveling during each period.

However, with summer vacation coming up in a few months, some people may be wondering which way to travel, or whether to travel both ways. Therefore, Hankyu Travel Co., Ltd. conducted a survey to find out whether more people actually travel during Golden Week or during summer vacation. We will introduce the results and the reasons for choosing each one, along with an analysis. *Students are excluded from the survey because they tend to have particularly long summer vacations. Do you travel more often during Golden Week or during summer vacation? Here are the results of the question “Which do you most often travel during Golden Week or summer vacation?” (Excluding those who chose “I don’t travel either”).

Only 30% of the people who answered “I spend more time on summer vacation” selected this option. For example, for Golden Week in 2025, many people will have a confirmed four-day holiday from May 3rd (Saturday) to May 6th (Tuesday), even if the only days off are Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. On the other hand, among those who answered “I prefer summer vacation,” the most common answer was “It’s a long vacation and it’s easier to go on long-distance trips” (54%). Considering that many people are able to take a long summer vacation around the Obon holiday period, the summer vacation season is probably an opportunity for long-term travel. While the percentages were almost the same for all other items, the difference was in the item “The climate is comfortable and suitable for sightseeing.” Nearly 30% of those who answered “more often during Golden Week” selected this item, while only about 10% of those who answered “more often during summer vacation” selected this option. In terms of climate, it seems that Golden Week, which is from late April to early May, is considered to be more comfortable than the summer vacation period, when many midsummer days are observed. Which do you find more crowded, Golden Week or summer vacation? Golden Week and summer vacation are both good times to travel, but some people may be worried about crowds. Therefore, in this survey, we also asked people which areas they felt were more crowded. The results for the question “Which do you feel is busier at tourist destinations, Golden Week or summer vacation? Please answer as if you were traveling domestically.” The results are as follows.

However, 33% of people answered that both are equally crowded, so depending on the destination and date of travel, many people may feel that they are equally crowded.
