(Headquarters: Mino City, Gifu Prefecture, Representative: Shinto Furukawa), a manufacturer located in Gifu Prefecture that manufactures and sells Mino Washi paper and paper stationery products with a history of 190 years, will announce the renewal of its new facility and the grand opening of the Kamiyu Café on April 26, 2025 (Saturday) at the directly managed store “Kamiyu” located in the Udatsuno Nagara townscape of Mino City, Gifu Prefecture.

This project will create a new paper-making area, cafe, and workshop space on the premises of “Kamiyu,” a Japanese paper store operated by Furukawa Shiko, a long-established company founded in the Edo period.This project will be developed as a place where you can “see, learn about, and experience the manufacturing process of washi paper.” (*Paper making facility scheduled to open this summer) The design aims to bring in a new perspective and breathe new life into the town, while also valuing harmony with the traditional townscape. By arranging the roof in response to the surrounding environment and intentionally slanting the layout of the cafe/workshop building, we have created a gentle blank space and a gathering space within the site. It also functions as a place where people naturally gather and interact. This project goes beyond mere “preservation” and incorporates a look toward the future into tradition. We will provide visitors with new discoveries and excitement while passing on the culture of Mino Washi to the next generation.
