The lion dance “Henbetori,” designated as an intangible folk cultural property of the city, is performed every night. This performance is based on the legend that long ago, when Emperor Murakami secretly visited the hot springs for a cure, he comforted and defeated a poisonous snake that was tormenting the villagers with the beautiful sound of a flute. This is a rare and charming lion dance in which a lion and a snake exchange lively dialogue to the sound of a flute.
