Asakawa Town is located in the southern part of the Nakadori region of Fukushima Prefecture. It is a lush town surrounded by the majestic nature and rural landscapes of the Abukuma Mountains, and is a town with a long history and tradition as the “fireworks village” with the oldest fireworks culture in Fukushima Prefecture. The purpose of this tour is to let people living in the Tokyo metropolitan area know the charms of Asakawa Town and to increase their interest in the town. The two-day, one-night trip will include a roundtable discussion with immigrants and a workshop to learn about fireworks traditions, as well as watching the fireworks over the Asakawa River in the evening. You will stay at Hahata Onsen Yahataya, one of the most popular hot spring inns in Japan. ■What are the fireworks in Asakawa Town? The Asakawa fireworks are held every year on August 16th during the Obon festival. After graduating from university, he worked as a programmer in the city for a while, but then he decided to become a pastry chef and went to train at a famous Western-style pastry shop in Tokyo. After working as a pastry chef at a cake shop in Shirakawa City, he went independent.
