The experiment examined systems and products that allow people with mobility restrictions to enjoy nature experiences safely and comfortably with their families and friends, and explored the possibilities of regional tourism and a symbiotic society. These circumstances are the factors that discourage people from going out, limiting the options of not only the person themselves but also those who accompany them. To realize “universal tourism” where anyone can enjoy traveling regardless of age or disability, the Japan Tourism Agency is also working to improve the environment through the “Mental Barrier-Free Certification System” and other initiatives. It is expected that this initiative will promote social participation of the elderly and people with disabilities and revitalize the economy by utilizing local tourism resources. ATJ has begun the development of the
outdoor-compatible electric wheelchair “ADV-e” with the aim of creating a society where everyone can share the excitement of experiencing nature with their family and friends. This demonstration experiment was carried out with the full cooperation of the Togakushi Tourism Association and the support of nicomo LLC, which provides local support. The purpose is to verify on-site a system that allows people with mobility restrictions to experience nature of their own volition and spend a rich time. Product concept of “ADV-e” ・A product that allows wheelchair users to experience nature with their families, something they had previously given up on ・Advanced suspension design allows it to handle a variety of nature walking paths, including rough roads, gravel roads, and snowy roads “ADV-e” is being developed as a product that offers a new option to people who have previously given up on enjoying nature with their family and friends. Future plans The second demonstration experiment is scheduled for this fall in the Togakushi area of ​​Nagano Prefecture, and we will continue to work to further improve the product’s performance and establish an operational system.
