Hoshino Resort Press release: November 19, 2024 [BEB by Hoshino Resorts] An industry-academia collaboration project with Tokyo Mode Gakuen with the theme of travel is being carried out. The second step is to come up with new designs for breakfast items that will make traveling more enjoyable | Period: From December 1, 2024 Graphic students came up with the design through their stay experience at “BEB5 Karuizawa”
Breakfast “French Toast with Feathers” served at “BEB5 Karuizawa” using cup sleeves (top left photo), tray paper, and stencils (top right photo, cafe latte version) designed by Tokyo Mode Gakuen students The “BEB by Hoshino Resorts” brand is based on the concept of “Tokyo Mode Gakuen,” a vocational school that trains
professionals in fashion, design, interior design, and graphics, and “a hotel that is more than a bar but less than a trip, where everyone can spend a relaxing time.” We are implementing an industry-academia collaboration project with the theme. The first one will be at BEB5 Tsuchiura by Hoshino Resorts, Hoshino Resorts’ only hotel where you can enjoy cycling, and we will be producing videos of travel experiences and makeup classes in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki. The second one will be at BEB5 Karuizawa by Hoshino Resorts. Through my stay there, I came up with designs for tray paper, cup sleeves, paper napkins, etc. used for breakfast. Background of the industry-academia collaboration project The young generation targeted by BEB has a strong interest in fashion and beauty, and enjoys fashion by counting backwards from their experiences, such as catching up on trends on SNS and deciding on clothes according to the places they go to play. It’s a generation. BEB is a hotel that was created with the idea of encouraging younger generations to travel more, and offers experiences unique to the region. “Tokyo Mode Gakuen” has many highly sensitive students who aim to become fashion and makeup professionals in the future. By proposing fashion, makeup, and graphics tailored to travel destination experiences from a student’s perspective, we launched this project with the hope of creating an opportunity for the younger generation to experience the joy of travel and become even more interested in traveling. did. For the second part of the project, we considered design items to be used at breakfast based on our stay experience at BEB5 Karuizawa. We have created a design that will make your trip more enjoyable while expanding your imagination by experiencing Karuizawa’s clean air, lovely blooming flowers, chirping birds, and other natural features that can only be experienced by staying in the hotel. The design reflects the students’ desire to make the start of their day on the road a special time. *Nine students from Tokyo Mode Gakuen participated in the project. As a result of the competition, 3 students had their designs selected Front row center: Yuzuki Kobayashi, front row far right: Ayaka Komada, back row far right: Kim Soo Min
◎Yuzuki Kobayashi In order to harmonize Karuizawa’s natural atmosphere with BEB’s pop logo, we created an active design for the tray paper. When I stayed at BEB5 Karuizawa, I was working at TAMARIBA at night, and since I saw people using the cafe, I also made tray paper for the night. Since the lighting is dark at night, I chose a neon design. Since it is made of design paper, you can use it even after eating. The difficult part was matching the atmosphere of the design. Since I was using it for breakfast, the problem was that if I went too natural, it would blend in too much, and if I went too active, it would float. I was able to solve this problem by making the design more active and using gentler colors. Through this project, I was able to experience matching the company’s colors, and I think my design skills have grown. *Tray paper and cup sleeves have the same design but different colors. A night version of the tray paper has also been devised.
◎Ayaka Komada It was created with the image of BEB’s friendly atmosphere and facility that values the surrounding nature. We hope that those who stay overnight will enjoy their day by reading the message on the paper napkin during their meal. Paper napkins are used for many purposes other than breakfast, so you can make the BEB brand known to many customers. We would be very happy if you could pick up these paper napkins when you come to stay at BEB. *The paper napkin has the message “Have a nice day” on it. BEB5 Tsuchiura is decorated with lotus flowers, and BEB5 Okinawa Seragaki is decorated with hibiscus flowers.
◎Kim Soo Min An idea that focuses on drawing a picture on top of a latte using cocoa powder. Since all menus include soup, we made sure that the BEB logo stands out no matter how you take the photo. I feel the joy of being able to utilize the creativity and design power I cultivated in the Graphic Design Department and see it take shape in the field. I would like to continue to propose many ideas and bring joy to people through design. *You can use a stencil to draw the BEB logo on various places such as soups, lattes, plates, etc.
Industry-academia collaboration project that will continue in the future The first project was video production, and the second project was about creating designs for breakfast items. We have been working on a project with Tokyo Mode Gakuen on the theme of “travel.” The students understood the regions of Karuizawa, Ibaraki Tsuchiura, and Okinawa Seragaki, and considered how to express them, and through repeated trial and error, the videos and breakfast items conveyed the joy of staying at BEB. It’s finished into something. The videos were created by imagining people going on a trip, and the breakfast items were created by imagining people spending time on a trip, giving us an opportunity to reconsider the appeal of BEB. Although this project has come to an end, “BEB by Hoshino Resorts” would like to continue to carry out industry-academia collaboration projects and provide a place for learning.

The concept is “More than an izakaya, but less than a trip, a hotel where everyone can spend a relaxing time.” With the usual lineup, it was better than a drinking party. Easier than traveling. There is a 24-hour cafe in the guest rooms and lounge where you can have fun. Guests are encouraged to bring their own food and drinks, and it is OK to arrive late for breakfast and check-out. We’ll help you enjoy your outings depending on your mood that day. Image
